SEND
"Inclusion is seen to involve the identification and minimising of barriers to learning and participation, and the maximising of resources to support learning participation."

At West Bretton Junior and Infant School, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school and strive to support all children ‘to be the best that they can be’, regardless of their level of need. Quality first teaching is fundamental and we ensure that we provide a curriculum that is appropriate to the needs and abilities of all our children; ensuring that each child is able to reach for the highest level of personal achievement.
All pupils follow the National Curriculum at a level and a pace that is appropriate to their abilities. When it is felt appropriate, modifications to the curriculum may be implemented and additional support is provided. Individualised intervention programs, working and conversing with outside agencies and engaging in regular contact with the families of children with SEND are at the heart of our goal in ensuring all children are able to access their learning.
In our setting, successful inclusion results in:
- every pupil feeling safe, confident and happy at school
- every pupil making the best progress possible whilst also enjoying their time at at school - be that in lessons, during their play or lunchtimes, or when involved in any of our extended school activities
- every child's belief in themselves as a learner and valued member of our school community.
Successful inclusive provision at West Bretton is seen as the responsibility of the whole school community, permeating all aspects of school life and applicable to all our pupils.
